Tens of thousands of visitors crowded the Borobudur Temple Tourist Park, Saturday (13/4/2024). During the Eid 2024 holiday, the peak crowds at tourist attractions in Magelang Regency, Central Java, are predicted to occur today.
The flow of tourists, both domestic and foreign, does not subside from morning until 13.30 at Borobudur Temple.
The Marga Utama area seems to be the mandatory first stop. Visitors stop there to take photos against the backdrop of the rows of Borobudur Temple stupas. Then they go to the temple grounds or they can also climb to the building structure. Like Hanindito, a tourist from Palembang, South Sumatra, who came to Borobudur with his family group. “Every Eid we choose to go on holiday. “Last year we went to Surabaya, this time we have been planning for a long time to go to Borobudur Temple,” he said
Apart from going to these historical destinations, Hanindito plans to go to Malioboro in Yogyakarta. He will be on holiday until Monday (15/4/2024). “I plan to return (home) on Monday. “Hopefully the return flow that day will not be jammed,” he said. General Manager of PT Taman Wisata Candi (TWC) Borobudur, Jamaludin Mawardi, said that as of today at 13.30, the number of visitors to Borobudur Temple had reached 10,200 people.
“The peak could be today or tomorrow. “The projected number of visitors that we calculate is around 14,500,” he explained. PT TWC has set the peak period for the 2024 Eid holiday for 10 days, from April 8-17. Jamaludin said, as of April 12 2024, the number of visits was recorded at 33,140 tourists. During the five days running, the highest visitation record was on Friday (12/4/2024) with around 15,000 visitors.
This rate is higher than the rate in normal times. For domestic tourists, the price is IDR 150,000 (adults) and IDR 90,000 (children). Meanwhile, foreign tourists are IDR 500,000 (adults) and IDR 350,000 (children).
In normal times, tickets for domestic tourists going up to the temple are IDR 120,000 (adults) and IDR 75,000 (children). The ticket price to go up to the temple for foreign tourists is IDR 455,000 (adults) and IDR 305,000 (children). Jamaludin stated that, even though there was an increase in rates, the visitor quota which was limited to 1,200 per day was always met 100 percent.
“There is no issue, really, regarding the price adjustment, both for foreign tourists and domestic tourists, because we have equated this price adjustment with last year’s Eid,” he said.
